Race 1 - November 7, 2015
Yes, we are back for another season. Yes, we still do this. Yes, in the rain. Fortunately, despite several assurances of a deluge by weather persons of both the professional and armchair variety (enough of which to make one wonder, "just how heavy a rain would it take to automatically set off an inflatable life jacket?" ), what fell from the sky throughout a good portion of today's match was mostly light, not even enough to really get anyone's cap wet. Nevertheless, it was still worthy of earning one of those hardship points that everyone seems to not only crave but insist upon for every little thing other than just moisture or cold.
That said, having to maneuver around an occasional floating island of hydrilla that seemed to resemble something out of one of those Creepshow movie segments, might have been worthy of an extra point as well. Luna Teak was even victimized by some of the underwater foliage that clung to their rudder and made for a very effective drogue for a portion of the first upwind leg.
Overall a good first race of the season, even with the aforementioned precipitation But at least it was accompanied by a fairly steady light breeze throughiout. One might have even called it a Tournament of Champions (sounds like aJeopardy! episode) as the 4 different boats to win a race in last year's series made up today's entire fleet (as Tim from Maniac astutely noted). "I'll take 'J29 losses' for $1,000, Alex!" But the rest of us did not hit the Daily Double today as Maniac emerged victorious.
Race 2 winds and weather looks promising. Let's see more of you out for Race 2! See you then!
